We are seeking an experienced CDL Class A Truck Driver with port experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for safely operating tractor-trailers to transport freight efficiently and securely. This role requires a strong understanding of route driving, load & unload procedures, and adherence to safety regulations. The position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with a focus on timely deliveries and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
- Safely operate commercial trucks including tractor-trailers with manual transmission (e.g. 10 speed) and other specialized vehicles such as refrigerated trailers.
- Transport freight to designated destinations while adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations
- Manage route driving responsibilities, ensuring timely pickups and deliveries at port facilities, manufacturing plants, retail, distribution centers.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure safety and compliance
- Inspect vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues and perform preventative maintenance
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers regarding schedules, delays, or issues during transit
- Follow safety protocols related to the operation of tractor trailer truck
- Plan routes and meet delivery schedules
- Document/Track completion of workload and retain fuel receipts
- Comply with truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking and break periods) as well as with company policies and procedures
- Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions
- Report defects, accidents or violations
Qualifications:
- Valid CDL Class A license (at least 2 years experience)
- TWIC Card
- Proven experience in commercial driving, especially within port environments (minimum 6 month port experience).
- Experience operating manual transmission trucks (e.g. 10 speed)
- Knowledge of freight handling procedures including load & unload operations
- Ability to operate refrigerated trailers, and tractor-trailers
- Strong understanding of route planning and delivery schedules
- Excellent driving skills with a focus on safety and compliance with transportation regulations
- Physical ability to perform vehicle inspections as needed
