I’m a 30 yr old guitarist who is looking to start jamming with people. Been playing guitar for about 9 years, mostly self taught, with the help of YouTube. Usually play at home by myself with loops or backing tracks-which is starting to become a bit stale. I’ve played with people before, other guitarists and drummers, so jamming with people is not completely foreign to me, but it’s been a little while. I have two young kids at home, which obviously keep me busy, but I’m starting to have more free time and would like to see if there are any like minded people around VB who would want to get together and have fun with music.
I have my own gear, and reliable transportation, but unfortunately I personally don’t really have a place to play loud so I would need to come to you or to a common place where we could play louder than bedroom levels. My house is small lol.
As for genres, I’m a huge phish Phan, so naturally I lean towards this style of music. The way they listen to each other as a band and patiently navigate through a jam is really inspiring and is the kind thing I’m into. At the same time, as most phans will know, much of their early stuff is heavily composed and is equally impressive to me. So obviously if one wishes to cover their stuff, you’ll need to know it note for note. I’ve concentrated on this fairly heavily over the last year or so and have worked up a decent repertoire of Phish covers and other stuff as well. Basically, I don’t intend to just self indulge and noodle. As fun as that is, I’m looking to grow as a player by playing with people who understand that the band working together as a whole is what makes it fun. And that’s exactly what I’m trying to do. Have fun! Music is a game that we created, I dont think it should be something taken too seriously.
I’ll add, I’m not looking to just play phish songs, I love other stuff too. Hendrix, Floyd, the dead, Umphrey’s McGee is another favorite of mine, blues, jazz fusion, all that stuff.
I play acoustic and electric as well.
So there you go, enough rambling from me.
I don’t have any big objectives aside from growing as a player, and the best way to do that is to get out there and play with other people. Whether it turns into a gigging band or not is not the biggest concern for me.
If you feel like you’re on the same wave length, hit me up!
