The original instrument was handcrafted in Buffalo, NY by luthier James Hamilton and was presented to Stevie on April 29, 1984, as a gift from Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top. This guitar is a replica of the original design.
Key Features of the Original Guitar
* Construction: Unlike a standard Fender Stratocaster's bolt-on design, the this guitar features a robust three-piece laminated maple neck-through-body construction.
* Aesthetics: It boasts a highly figured, book-matched curly maple top and back with a striking reddish-amber mahogany sunburst finish and cream binding wrapping the edges.
* The Fretboard: It features an ebony fingerboard explicitly detailed with "Stevie Ray Vaughan" inlaid in mother-of-pearl running across the frets.
* Scale Length: Built with a slightly longer 26 1/8” scale length. This allowed Stevie to run his preferred ultra-heavy string gauges (often starting at .013) tuned a half-step down to E-flat while maintaining optimal tension and massive resonance.
Notable Appearances
Stevie Ray Vaughan famously showcased the guitar in his iconic music videos for "Cold Shot" and "Couldn't Stand the Weather". The guitar gave him a massive, distinct tone that carved out its own unique space alongside his famous "Number One" Fender Stratocaster.
