SNS is seeking qualified candidates for the Box/Concrete Laborer position. SNS's Horizontal Directional Drill position falls into our underground utilities division. This is a great opportunity for a self-starter and motivated individual seeking a long-term position with advancement potential.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and energetic Concrete Laborer to join our dynamic underground construction team. Your experience in concrete will be highly valuable to our crew. In this role, you will be instrumental in performing various concrete-related tasks on commercial projects. Your enthusiasm and hands-on skills will help ensure the successful completion of projects while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
-Excavation and Site Preparation: Digging trenches and holes to the required depth for conduit runs and the junction box, often using shovels or heavy excavation machinery.
-Box Setting: Installing pre-cast concrete, polymer concrete, or plastic boxes into the ground, ensuring they are level, stable, and properly supported, sometimes using pea gravel for drainage or treated wood for stability.
-Conduit Installation: Cutting, bending, and installing conduit (rigid or PVC) into the box, ensuring 90-degree sweeps come up through the bottom of the box for proper cable entry.
-Sealing and Finishing: Attaching covers, using sealing compounds (like duct seal), and backfilling around the box, leaving it at the correct grade (level with the surface) and accessible.
-Operate concrete mixers, pumps, and other power tools to facilitate pouring and finishing concrete.
-Perform concrete finishing tasks such as smoothing surfaces, edging, and sealing joints for a polished look.
-Maintain a clean work area by removing debris and ensuring all tools are properly stored after use.
-Outdoor Conditions: Work is performed in all weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, rain).
-Hazards: Exposure to dust, noise, vibrations, and open trenches.
-Schedule: Full-time, often starting early morning, with potential for overtime during peak season.
Requirements
-Proven construction site experience with a focus on concrete or related trades.
-Mechanical knowledge of power tools, hand tools, and heavy equipment operation.
-Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and consistently throughout the workday.
-Knowledge of blueprint reading, schematics, and technical drawings related to concrete projects.
-Familiarity with form building and concrete finishing techniques.
-Strong understanding of safety protocols in construction environments.
-Valid driver’s license for commercial driving or operation of heavy equipment preferred, but not mandatory.
