We're looking for women at least 19 years old, who have primary health coverage and that already have a solid basic skating foundation. If it's been a while, we recommend you get out and skate as much as you can. The more you skate, the better you get.
On Sunday, April 27th, 2008, 9am-11am, we will hold a Meet and Greet at our practice and bout facility, Haygood Skating Center, located at 1036 Ferry Plantation Road in Virginia Beach. At the Meet and Greet, you will learn the ins and outs of the game of Roller Derby, learn exactly what it takes to be a Dominion Derby Girl as well as learn exactly what equipment you will need for Tryouts. You will also get to observe one of our league practices! On Sunday, May 18th, 2008, 9am-11am, we hold tryouts at Haygood. You will need to bring ALL of the required equipment listed below in order to participate.
We ask that you let us know you're attending the Meet and Greet and/or Tryouts by sending us an RSVP, and if you have any questions, just email us at freshmeat@dominionderbygirls.net Being a rollergirl is a lot of hard work, but it can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life!
LIST OF SKILLS
Each Recruit will be asked to complete the skills listed below:
BASIC SKILLS:
-Forward Skating
-Crossovers
-Power stroking/glides
-One-foot glides
ENDURANCE:
-20 laps
-5 laps
EXTRA BROWNIE POINTS:
-Derby knowledge
-Sports background
***In addition to demonstrating these skills, each recruit will also undergo an interview with the Head Coach.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
For insurance purposes, you will be required to sign a waiver as well as bring a copy of your identification and health insurance card.
In order to participate in tryouts, you are required to wear the following quality protective gear: (Pro-tec, Rector Fat Boy or 187 pads are HIGHLY recommended)
-Knee pads
-Elbow pads
-Wristguards
-Helmet
-Mouthguard
Rental skates WILL NOT be available at the rink for Tryouts. Please email us at freshmeat@dominionderbygirls.net BEFORE you order your skates. Gear can be purchased at most local skateboard shops or Dick's Sporting Goods. If you are interested in purchasing skates, we recommend Sin City Skates(www.sincityskates.com), cause hey, it's run by skaters! (And they sponsor us...shhhhh!)
